Nintendo DS Lite turned 20 this year. Launched March 2, 2006, it went on to sell 93.86 million units worldwide, riding a boom built on Nintendogs, Brain Training, and Animal Crossing that pulled in people who'd never bought a game console before. Demand got so intense that owning one became a genuine status symbol, with retail shortages and buyer lines that outside observers compared to Nintendo Switch demand years later.
